McMurtry Unveils the Production Spéirling PURE

McMurtry Automotive has revealed the final production form of the Spéirling PURE, a single-seat electric hyper track car shaped around the same fan-based downforce idea that made the prototype a Goodwood record holder and Top Gear Test Track benchmark.

In production specification, McMurtry says 95 percent of the components are new compared with the prototype cars. The result is still deliberately small, extreme, and single-minded, but the final development phase has focused on making the car easier to run, easier to service, and easier for owners to approach.

Production hardware

The production car uses a 100 kWh lithium-ion battery built with Molicel P50B NCA 21700 cells, feeding new Helix drive motors through an upgraded gearbox. Output is quoted at 1,000 bhp to the rear wheels, with rear-wheel drive and an E-differential.

The larger battery moves the wheelbase from 2.0 m to 2.2 m and required new carbon-fiber bodywork, yet the Spéirling PURE remains compact: 3,815 mm long, 1,795 mm wide, and 1,056 mm tall. A new carbon-fiber monocoque adds cabin room, a wider door opening, and a repositioned A-pillar for better visibility.

Fan-generated grip

The defining system remains Downforce-on-Demand, McMurtry's patented fan-based downforce technology. Two high-speed fans draw air from a sealed region beneath the chassis and can create up to 2,000 kg of downforce from 0 mph, with the fans spinning up to 23,000 rpm.

Because the downforce is not dependent on conventional road speed, the car can reach forces usually reserved for top-level racing machinery: 3g in corners, 3g under braking, 0-60 mph in 1.55 seconds with one-foot rollout, and a 190 mph top speed.

Designed to be run

Production changes are not limited to speed. The powertrain cooling moves from rear to front, the skirt system gains an onboard air compressor, and service access panels make key components easier to reach. The car is intended to be usable at track days with a driver and one competent friend, while a full factory support program remains available.

Charging from 20 to 95 percent is quoted at 20 to 60 minutes, depending on charger power and ambient temperature. McMurtry will also offer a portable 100 kWh storage unit with 120 kW output for venues without suitable charging.

What changes visually

The new exterior and interior keep the original short-wheelbase philosophy, but the production car is larger in every major dimension. The most visible design change is at the rear, where the fan inlet ducts are now exposed.

The cabin also moves beyond pure prototype function, with personalization options for colors, stitching, stripes, logos, wheels, graphics, paint, and interior trim. McMurtry says no two customer cars need be the same.

McMurtry plans to display the Spéirling PURE at the Goodwood Festival of Speed from 9-12 July, followed by the full production car's public debut at The Quail in Monterey on 14 August. Pricing starts at £995,000, or roughly $1.3 million, before local taxes, shipping, and options.
