Sold: 1989 Mazda 767B, Chassis 767-003
We are pleased to announce the sale of this 1989 Mazda 767B, chassis 767-003, a Group C/IMSA GTP prototype that advanced Mazda’s rotary endurance program toward the Le Mans–winning 787B. Built as the final 767-series chassis, this is one of just three examples from Mazda’s late-1980s prototype lineage. The transaction underscores enduring interest in competition-developed machines with clear provenance.
Presented in Mazdaspeed livery and powered by Mazda’s 13J-MM four-rotor Wankel, this 2.6-liter 767B produces roughly 630 hp and reflects development aimed at improved low- and mid-range response for 1989. This 767B ran the 1989 24 Hours of Le Mans in 767 specification and finished 12th overall, then was upgraded to full 767B spec and returned to Le Mans in 1990 to place 20th as the sole Mazdaspeed finisher. Its period activity includes multiple Fuji endurance outings, subsequent privateer use, long-term collection in South Africa, and a documented restoration to 1990 767B specification, followed by appearances at the Spa Classic (2014) and Goodwood Festival of Speed (2016).
As we continue to curate competition and collector automobiles of similar caliber, we invite interested parties to review available inventory. Serious buyers are encouraged to contact us directly for current offerings and upcoming consignments.
